Poor Tom’s bladder stone did not respond to the special diet, and he spent the next 2 weeks in serious discomfort. After another vet visit and round of X-rays & tests, mom finally agreed to the cystotomy. While Tom recovered quickly, mom was left with major regrets – and more vet bills.

What goes into your kitten’s prrrfect plan?

Here are the 4 factors that impact how much is covered, and what it will cost.

90% Reimbursement Rate

90% cash back on covered vet bills helps you say ‘yes’ to the best care, even if it’s costly. It’s why ALL pets with a Pumpkin Kitten Insurance plan get this high rate!

3 Annual Deductible Options

Choose to pay either $100, $250, or $500 towards covered vet bills before your cash back kicks in each year. For lower monthly payments, try a higher deductible.

$7K - Unlimited Annual Limit

Choose how much coverage you need. While <3% of recent catstomers file over $7k/yr in claims, a $15k/yr or unlimited annual limit option is also available for added peace of mind.1

3 Pet Profile Factors

In addition to these other factors, your cat’s age, breed, and location also play a role in determining the monthly price of your Pumpkin Kitten Insurance plan.

Want refunds for routine wellness care your kitty needs to stay healthy?

Of course you do! It’s why we worked with vets to create Preventive Essentials. It’s not insurance, but an optional wellness package you can add to your plan to get refunds for annual wellness visits, vaccines, and more.

Some questions we get asked all the time...

The cost of your Pumpkin Kitten Insurance plan will depend on a few key factors:

Breed: Certain breeds have more health problems than others and cost a little more to insure, so this is a factor that can impact the monthly cost of your plan.

Location: Average vet care costs in your city are taken into consideration, so pet parents in cities with less costly vet care may have lower monthly premiums (and vice versa).

Age: Older cats are at a higher risk for developing certain illnesses, so you can expect to pay a lower monthly premium for your insurance plan than you would if you had an older cat. Just another reason why kittenhood is the prrrfect time to insure your pet!

Annual Coverage Limit: The amount your insurance plan is designed to cover in eligible vet bills each year will impact the cost of your plan. Higher annual limits usually result in higher monthly premiums, whereas lower annual limits result in lower ones.

Annual Deductible: How much you choose to pay towards covered vet bills each year before your 90% cash back kicks in can also affect the monthly cost of your plan. In general, the higher the annual deductible, the lower your monthly premium.

The best time to get a Pumpkin Pet Insurance plan is when your cat is a kitten, so it can cover accidents or illnesses that may happen in the future. If a condition occurs before you enroll or during the waiting period, your Pumpkin plan (like most insurance plans) would not be able to cover it. So… the earlier you enroll in your pet’s life, the more your plan can cover.

In addition, aging cats are more prone to developing certain illnesses, making them more expensive to insure than kittens. So the younger your pet is when you enroll, the lower your monthly insurance payments will be!

So worth it! Pumpkin Pet Insurance plans can help cover the costs of veterinary care when your kitten gets sick or hurt throughout their life. While an indoor lifestyle may help your cat avoid certain illnesses or accidents – there are several others that it can’t.

From chronic conditions like diabetes to hereditary conditions like polycystic kidney disease, there are plenty of illnesses that your cat can develop regardless of whether they’re indoor or outdoor. Not to mention, having a kitten with an indoor lifestyle won’t prevent them from jumping off the fridge and breaking a bone, snacking on a houseplant, or swallowing a ball of yarn when you’re not home. Accidents can happen to cats of all lifestyles. The best way to protect your indoor kitten (and your cash!) is to get them covered by insurance.

It’s easy – just follow these 3 simple steps:

  1. When your kitten is sick or hurt, take them to any licensed veterinarian in the U.S. or Canada for treatment, and pay as usual when you leave.
  2. Log in to your account on pumpkin.care to file a claim for any eligible veterinary expenses. Simply follow the prompts to enter your claim details, upload a copy of your itemized vet bill, and submit! It’s fast, easy, and 100% digital.
  3. Your claim will be processed quickly and you’ll be reimbursed via check or direct deposit for 90% of covered costs up to the annual limit, after your annual deductible has been met.

Unlike a human health insurance HMO, your Pumpkin Pet Insurance plan’s coverage isn’t limited to a “network” of health care providers. Since you get paid back directly, your dog is free to receive treatment from any licensed veterinarian, specialist, emergency clinic or hospital you choose in the U.S. or Canada!

We know choosing a kitten insurance provider is a big decision, and we want to help you make the best, most informed choice for your fur baby. For this reason, we thought we’d highlight some key ways Pumpkin insurance plans stand out from the pack:

  • 90% reimbursement rate fur all cats 8 weeks & up – seniors included
  • $7k-unlimited annual coverage limit options
  • Everyone gets extensive coverage (no need to buy a bunch of extra insurance plan add-ons)
  • Pumpkin plans cover key conditions some insurance plans exclude, like dental illnesses, behavioral issues, hereditary conditions, and parasite infections
  • Pumpkin plans cover in-clinic + virtual vet exam fees for accidents & illnesses at no extra cost
  • Pumpkin plans cover physical therapy and prescription food & supplements* for covered conditions no extra cost
  • No breed or upper age restrictions, plus no reducing coverage as your kitten ages
  • 14-day waiting period for all conditions – even knee injuries and hip dysplasia
  • 10% discount on a Pumpkin plan for each additional pet you enroll
  • Quick & easy online claims process
  • Easy comparison charts to see what you’re really getting vs. other insurance providers

While Pumpkin Kitten Insurance plans offer extensive coverage for accidents & illnesses, they don’t cover elective procedures like spaying and neutering.

Pumpkin Pet Insurance plans are designed to cover the diagnostics and treatments your kitten needs to get better when unexpected accidents or illnesses occur. They are not designed to cover routine wellness care that kittens need to stay healthy year-round, like vaccines to help prevent infectious diseases.

That said, we know pet insurance alone won’t solve your kitty’s health & wellness needs. It’s why we worked with vets to create a unique wellness package called Preventive Essentials. Preventive Essentials isn’t insurance, but an optional benefit you can add to your Pumpkin insurance plan if you want refunds each year for crucial wellness care, including an annual wellness exam fee; vaccine; and fecal “poop” test for intestinal worms.

Yep! You can enroll in a Pumpkin Pet Insurance plan any time during your kitten’s life starting at 8 weeks old. However, if your kitty’s accident occurs before you enroll or during the 14-day waiting period, your Pumpkin plan (like most insurance plans) would not be able to cover it.

That said, if your kitten’s condition is curable (e.g., toxic ingestion, bite wound, or broken bone), was cured, and has been free of symptoms and treatment for 180 days, your Pumpkin plan would cover the same accident if it occured again in the future, with the exception of knee & hind leg ligament injuries. This won’t be the case with plans from all pet insurance providers.

To sum it up, while your Pumpkin plan wouldn’t be able to cover an accident that occured before enrolling or during the waiting period, you can absolutely still enroll your kitten and get coverage for new accidents or illnesses that happen in the future!

If your kitten has a condition that occurs or shows symptoms before coverage starts or during the 14-day waiting period, it’s considered “pre-existing” and won’t be covered by your Pumpkin insurance plan – at least at first. If the pre-existing condition is curable (e.g., UTI, paw fracture), was cured, and has been free of symptoms and treatment for 180 days, your Pumpkin plan would cover it if it occurs again in the future, with the exception of knee & hind leg ligament conditions. If a knee or hind leg ligament condition occurs prior to the day after you purchase your Pumpkin plan or during the waiting period, any future ones won’t be covered.

It’s important to note that not all pet insurances will cover eligible cured pre-existing conditions that occur again in the future, so this is definitely a plus with Pumpkin insurance plans!

All that said, having an incurable pre-existing condition, or a knee or hind leg ligament condition, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t join the Pumpkin pack! You can always enroll your kitten and get covered for new conditions that develop down the road. Have questions? Call us at 1‑866‑ARF‑MEOW (1‑866‑273‑6369) or email help@pumpkin.care.
