Pumpkin vs

Pumpkin & Figo: Key Differences

While Pumpkin and Figo both offer pet insurance plans for accidents & illnesses and optional wellness packages, there are some key coverage differences you should be aware of when choosing which provider is right for you and your pet.¹ Let’s dig in.

Pumpkin plans cover parasite infections, whether preventable or not. Figo plans don’t.

Heartworms, ticks, fleas, intestinal worms, and other parasites are year-round threats to dogs and cats across the US, indoors and out, and can be lethal if left untreated. While routine preventive meds and vaccines can help protect against parasites, research shows that most dogs and cats will suffer from a parasite-borne illness in their lifetime.² For these reasons, Pumpkin insurance plans cover the diagnostics and treatment of parasite infections, regardless of whether there is a preventive treatment available or not. Figo insurance plans won’t cover any parasite infection where there is a preventive treatment available.

Pumpkin plans cover Rx supplements. Figo plans don’t.

Rx supplements can be very helpful for pets suffering from a range of illnesses, from kidney disease to diabetes. As long as a supplement is prescribed to treat an eligible accident or illness and not for general health or weight maintenance, Pumpkin insurance plans can cover it.³ Figo insurance plans don’t cover Rx supplements at all.

Pumpkin plans don’t charge extra to cover vet exam fees for accidents & illnesses.

Pumpkin insurance plans cover exam fees for accident- and illness-related vet visits at no extra cost – in-clinic and virtual visits included! This can be a huge cost saver as exam fees typically range from $53 to $174 and are included in nearly every vet bill. Figo insurance plans charge an extra monthly fee to cover these vet exam fees, which can vary depending on your pet’s age and location.

Pumpkin plans don’t charge extra to cover behavioral issues.

With over 99% of U.S. dogs reported to have behavior issues in a recent study, coverage for common behavioral problems like separation anxiety and aggression can prove to be very valuable. That’s why Pumpkin insurance plans cover consultations, treatment, and Rx meds for behavioral issues. Treatment for behavioral issues isn’t covered by Figo’s base insurance plans – it’s an optional add-on for an additional monthly fee. Figo plans also have a separate reimbursement limit of $500/yr for veterinary expenses related to treatment for behavioral issues. It can cost $550+ for a first consultation with a veterinary behaviorist.

Pumpkin plans don’t charge extra to cover Rx food.

Rx food can be very helpful for pets suffering from a range of illnesses, from kidney disease to diabetes, but they can also be a costly recurring expense. As long as a pet food is prescribed to treat an eligible accident or illness and not for general health or weight maintenance, Pumpkin insurance plans can cover it.³ Figo insurance plans only offer this coverage as an optional add-on for an additional monthly fee.

Pumpkin plans don’t have a 180-day waiting period for orthopedic conditions in dogs.

Hereditary conditions like hip dysplasia and knee ligament injuries of the CCL or ACL are common and can happen at any age. If surgery is needed to repair a hip or knee, it can cost thousands! Figo insurance plans have a 6-month waiting period for orthopedic conditions after enrollment, which can only be waived if your dog has a healthy orthopedic exam within the first 30 days and your vet can confirm there was no pre-existing condition at that time. Pumpkin insurance plans don’t have an extended waiting period for orthopedic conditions. The waiting period is the same for all accidents & illnesses: 14 days or less, depending on your state.

Pumpkin plans offer a 10% multi-pet discount. Figo plans offer a 5% multi-pet discount.

We know pet care can be expensive – especially when you have more than one four-legged family member to budget for. That’s why Pumpkin plans offer a 10% multi-pet discount for each additional pet you enroll. Figo plans only offer a 5% multi-pet discount for each additional pet.

It’s ALWAYS possible to get full value each year from Pumpkin’s optional wellness package.

Pumpkin’s wellness package is called Preventive Essentials. It’s not insurance, but an optional benefit you can add to your insurance plan for a monthly fee. Designed to help you plan and pay for crucial routine care that keeps your pet healthy, Preventive Essentials gives you a 100% refund each year for an annual wellness exam (we cover the exam fee), key vaccine(s), and important parasite screenings test(s). To get the most out of your package – all you have to do is use these 3 benefits.

Figo offers 2 optional Wellness Powerup packages (Wellness Basic and Wellness Plus) that can be added to your insurance plan for a monthly fee. They both offer reimbursement for routine care services from a menu of different service categories up to a capped amount per year. The only difference is Wellness Plus has a higher monthly fee and higher reimbursement caps. These plans can help you save money if you use most of the services offered, but not everything on the menu is a typical yearly expense (e.g., deworming, microchipping, spay/neuter procedure). Whatever benefits you don’t use in the year term, you lose – there are no carryovers.
